Job no: 496278
Work type: Permanent Full Time
Location: Rosebery Mine
The Rosebery Mine in Tasmania, is a polymetallic underground mine, in operation since 1936, which has current potential to extend life beyond 2030.
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Underground Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at the Rosebery Mine in the rugged west of Tasmania.
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work in one of the deepest mines in Australia. Working in a small Geotechnical team you will gain highly diverse experience with sub-level stoping at depth as well as exposure to legacy mining operations and surface geotechnical instability. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to expand their geotechnical experience and who is self-motivated and can work independently.
Your role will see you monitoring underground and surface rock mass deformation and performance, assessing ground control system performance as well as maintaining ground control quality control and quality assurance systems. Geotechnical assessments and performance monitoring of stope and development designs as well as providing geotechnical feedback with respect to mining optimisation will make up a large proportion of your work load.
The role will expose you to the collection and analysis of geotechnical data including core logging, geotechnical mapping, ground support installation and rock mass instrumentation. You will be involved in geotechnical analysis for excavation design utilising rock mass classification and characterisation systems, geological structural data, empirical analysis and numerical modelling.
Ideally candidates will have the following attributes:
- Degree qualifications in Geotechnical, Mining or Civil Engineering
- Experience with underground mining
- An unwavering commitment to workplace safety
- Comfortable working in underground mining environments
- Current drivers licence
This is a permanent residential role on an 8/6 roster. Naturally, MMG will support you with relocation to the area and provide generous housing assistance. The Rosebery Mine is located approximately three hours’ drive from the Launceston airport which has regular flights to Melbourne and Sydney.
