Mine Planning Engineer - Projects - Rosebery Mine

We are currently seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Mine Planning Engineer in  Projects for our Rosebery Mine in Tasmania.  This role is reporting to the Senior Engineer – Mine Planning and The purpose of the Projects Mine Planning role is to identify and develop mine plans for medium to long term mining opportunities identified through geological exploration and extensional drill programs as well as remnant mining investigations.

Mine planning outputs of this role include high level economic analysis of potential mining opportunities and analysis of the integration with the current LoA Mine Plan. A key component of this role is to ensure opportunities are well investigated, documented and adequately presented to site management for approval into the life of asset plan.In addition, candidates must demonstrate expertise in establishing cultures and systems that imbed a safety awareness as well as application of rigor to planning and process within multi-disciplinary operational teams.  Candidates with past achievements in complex dynamic underground mining are urged to apply. To be successful you must have a high level of interpersonal and reporting skills, with a strong ability to clearly articulate the salient message.

MMG will also support successful candidates to relocate to the region and provide a generous relocation package. This role represents a genuine career opportunity for a motivated professional.  This role will be based on a 9-day fortnight (4:3,5:2) residential roster.

The responsibilities of this role will include, but not be limited to;

  • Ensure project opportunity designs are thoroughly investigated and delivered fit for purpose to short term engineers in a timely manner for assessment and inclusion into the medium and long term mine plans.
  • Develop Panel Design Commentaries for potential mining opportunities with integration of other technical functions
  • Ensure that due consideration is given to global mine stability issues at design stage
  • Assist in the development of the Life of Asset Mine Plan
  • Assist with the compilation of the medium to long term mining schedule
  • Produce short term mine development and production plans as may be required
  • Ensure mining opportunities consider capital expenditure and infrastructure requirements
  • Ensure final digital designs and supporting files are named in accordance with approved conventions.
  • Maintain and improve communication channels for relaying information to and from appropriate personnel.
  • Actively participate in team discussions and decisions
  • Contribute towards a strong team working culture within the Technical Services Team
  • Provide specialist technical advice to the operations team in areas of competence
  • Work with the Operations team to analyse options and to anticipate future requirements related to all accountabilities associated with this role
  • Consistently apply Workplace Management Procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, agreed visions and values, and MMG Code of Conduct
  • Continually seeks to improve existing workplace practices
  • Proactively seeks to understand the roles and the needs of other team members
  • Work collaboratively to help other departments to achieve their objectives
  • Demonstrate safe behaviour at all times and comply with the site’s standards and procedures in SHEC

Bring with you your skills, experience and qualifications;

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the mining industry, including some base metal experience
  • Significant experience of underground base metal mining
  • Previous hands on experience with Deswik and/or similar mine Planning software
  • Previous experience in Mine Planning and mining project development
  • Knowledge of Underground mining methods
  • Working knowledge of mine geology
  • Demonstrated mine production project development and execution
  • Understanding of survey methods
  • Good knowledge of underground mine ventilation
  • Working knowledge of underground geotechnical requirements in mine design
  • Strategic (3yr) and short term (1yr) business planning techniques
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the mining industry, including some base metal experience
  • Significant experience of underground base metal mining
  • Previous hands on experience with Deswik and/or similar mine Planning software
  • Previous experience in Mine Planning and mining project development
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mine Engineering (B.Sc minimum)
  • Membership of AusIMM or AIG.
  • Current C Class Tasmanian Drivers Licence or equivalent
