We currently have an opportunity available for an experienced Mine Project Geologist to join our team at Rosebery in Tasmania, a polymetallic underground mine, in operation since 1936, which has current potential to extend life beyond 2030.
The purpose of this role is to contribute to the sustainability and growth of the Rosebery resource base through the design/supervision of drill program designs, rig scheduling, and collection and interpretation of geological data. Reporting to the Senior Mine Project Geologist, you will be responsible for identifying and exploiting business improvement opportunities, mentor and train Mine Geologists and cover vacancies (operational and managerial) within the Geology Department. Your duties will also include geological data collection and interpretation of results, liaising with drilling contractors and assay laboratories and assisting with the planning of drilling programs.
This role would ideally be suited to a Geologist with a minimum of 7 years underground mining experience, looking to expand their knowledge and capability within a supportive team environment. This role represents a genuine career opportunity for a motivated professional as a full time position on an 8/6 residential roster, giving you the opportunity to become a member of the Rosebery community. Naturally, MMG will support you with relocation to the area and provide generous housing assistance.
Your responsibilities will include:
Demonstrating MMG’s SHEC values through personal behaviours and conversations
Log diamond drill core and maintaining core logging standards and outcomes.
Identify business improvement opportunities relating to mine geology.
Work collaboratively to ensure consistent geological data interpretation.
Designing, scheduling, execution and supervision of diamond drilling activities.
Mentor and train graduate and mine geologists to ensure they are trained and competent in approved processes
Ensure adherence to QAQC protocols, regular reporting of QAQC performance and liaison with laboratory.
Assist in development of JORC compliant resource models and updates.
The successful applicant will possess:
Tertiary qualifications in Geology;
Australian drivers licence;
Proficiency in underground mapping, sampling methods and geological interpretation;
Intimate knowledge of diamond drilling techniques, activities and management;
Demonstrated underground geology experience; and
Computer skills and proficiency in MS Office suite. Advanced competence in the use of 3D mining software package and common database systems is desirable.
