MMG Rosebery:

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.

With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028.  This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.

The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance and employs over 500 employees and contractors who reside in the local region.

Senior Project Geologist

Reporting to the Superintendent Geology, the purpose of this role is to contribute to the sustainability and growth of the Rosebery resource base through the supervision of drill program designs, rig scheduling, and geological data collection.  This role is a key on-site stakeholder for database management, assay laboratory administration, and the provisioning of high-quality resource model inputs.

The is residential role offered on a 5/2, 4/3 roster.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness.
  • Intimate knowledge of all drilling processes
  • Working knowledge of geological databases
  • Advanced competence in using 3D mining software
  • Working knowledge with all aspects of underground mine geology
  • Ability to measure and optimise drilling programme performance
  • Ability to interpret and respond to mining and project schedules
  • Advanced reporting and presentation skills
  • Ability to coach and mentor Graduate Geologists, Mine Geologists and Mine Technicians.
  • Ability to identify and manage continuous improvement opportunities
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise the Mine Projects Team to complete effective resource development projects
  • Ensure that drilling programs are designed to adequately test and upgrade resources
  • Manage the design, scheduling, execution and supervision of all diamond drilling activities (underground and surface) except for grade control drilling.
  • Ensure that maximum value is extracted from all drilling and that high-quality data is captured to database
  • Deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes
  • Monitor and report progress and maintain open communications across site and support teams
  • Mentor and train graduate and mine geologists to ensure they are trained and competent in MMG approved procedures
  • Responsible for performance of QAQC protocols, regular reporting of QAQC performance and liaison with laboratory
  • Assist in the development of JORC compliant resource models and updates
  • Assist in compiling data used in annual mineral resource reporting by Group
  • Contribute to ore characterisation studies.
  • Log diamond drill core as required.
  • Review and ensure consistent geological data interpretation.
  • Supervision and direction of Geology team when required
