Dugald River is one of the world’s top 10 zinc operations, located near Cloncurry in Queensland. Dugald River was successfully commissioned ahead of schedule and under budget, with first production of zinc concentrate in October 2017.Dugald River is estimated to have a mine life of 20+ years processing an average of 1.7 million tonnes of ore per annum. The operation predominantly produces zinc concentrate, with by-products including lead and silver.
Manager - SHEC
Reporting to the General Manager, this role will be accountable for leading and managing all Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) requirements at Dugald River. The role contributes to continuous improvement in SHEC delivery through active participation with Australian Operations Support and Operations & Technical Excellence Teams at MMG.
Within this role is the accountability to continually improve overall SHEC performance, strategy and capability in terms of value generation, cost efficiency and risk mitigation across site whilst looking for efficiencies and different ways of operating and performing work through established change.
The position draws from agreed standards and approaches and ensures that fit-for-purpose systems, tools and people are in place and that day to day delivery is in line with agreed service and performance parameters.
This role is available on a 8/6, 4/3 or 5/2 based on location. The role is available on a drive in, drive out basis (DIDO) from the Cloncurry or Mount Isa Districts or FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane. An attractive additional incentive is available to employees who live or move into the Cloncurry township. Qualifications, Competencies & knowledge highly desired;
Tertiary qualifications in relevant Safety and/or Health discipline
Continued education in leadership development, business management and continuous improvement
Extensive experience in site operational leadership in one or more of the following functions in the resources industry: Safety & Health, Environment or Community
Significant experience in the management of people, budgets and programmes of work
Extensive knowledge of effective management and leadership tools, techniques and methods
Contemporary knowledge and application of Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Acts and Regulations
Some of your key responsibilities will include;
Providing visible Safety Leadership and guidance to all employees and contractors of MMG Dugald River.
Contributing to establishing a stable and sustainable operational performance to support the growth of MMG and leading teams and fostering excellent working relationships, with strong lines of communication.
Effective and inspiring leadership by supporting a culture of improvement and self-development.
Develop and implement wholistic site wide SHEC strategies.
Provide the highest standard of functional advice to the General Manager, Dugald River in regard to Safety, Health, Environment and Community.
Direct and manage Safety, Health and Hygiene delivery activities at Australian Operations including support to the emergency response team and supports line execution of safety delivery.
Provide subject matter expertise to support implementation of the MMG Safe Task Management Standard.
Manage Safety, Health and Hygiene delivery activities; including Safety, Health and Hygiene data collection, validation and recording, implementation of Safety, Health and Hygiene related management plans, and provision of support in responding to regulatory requests relating to Safety, Health and Hygiene management.
Monitor and report compliance with Safety, Health and Hygiene related licenses, regulations and Standards.
Manage the first line of defense activities for Safety, Health and Hygiene.
Maintain relationships with local and State regulators of Safety, Health and Hygiene legislation through close consultation with site General Manager.
Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals that support the department, site and company standards.
Demonstrate leadership in SHEC through personal behaviours and conversations.
