Dugald River is one of the world’s top 10 zinc operations, located near Cloncurry in Queensland. Dugald River was successfully commissioned ahead of schedule and under budget, with first production of zinc concentrate in October 2017.Dugald River is estimated to have a mine life of 20+ years processing an average of 1.7 million tonnes of ore per annum. The operation predominantly produces zinc concentrate, with by-products including lead and silver.
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, this role is responsible to ensure correct and professional application of geotechnical principles to the planning and operation at Dugald River, so that compliance with Company Standards for Ground Control are achieved and maintained.
The role is available on a drive in drive out basis (DIDO) from the Cloncurry or Mount Isa Districts, or FIFO from Townsville and Brisbane. This role will operate on an 8/6 roster. Relocation support will be available for successful candidates who reside outside of the local region and who wish to relocate to the Cloncurry or Mount Isa districts.
Suitably qualified and experienced Geotechnical Engineer with either Mining, civil engineering, geology qualifications with post graduate study in mining rock mechanics
An unwavering commitment to workplace safety
Sound knowledge of rock mechanics, numerical modelling, seismicity, ground support systems and methods
A strong background & experience within underground hard rock mining experience
Passion for improving day to day operations and contributing to the overall inclusive workforce culture of Dugald River.
Strong communication, negotiation and influencing capability.
Ability to engage stakeholders effectively across all levels
Some of the key responsibilities will include;
Monitoring rock deformations and performance
Monitoring support and reinforcement systems, maintain ground support QA/QC database
Geotechnical data collection: core logging, rock face mapping, ground support installation, instrumentation
Undertaking geotechnical analysis utilising Rock Mass Classification systems, stereonets, failure mode analysis and numerical modelling
Conducting reviews of stope performance focussing on rock mechanics issues
Providing input into mine planning to ensure excavation designs, pillars, ground support and mining sequences are appropriate
Design and operational input into backfill plans for mined voids
