Mine Surveyor

MMG Dugald River:

The mine; Dugald River is fully owned by MMG Limited and is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc operation and is mined underground. Dugald River is expected to produce around 180,000 – 190,000 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate annually. The operation employs around 500 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis. 

Mine Surveyor

We are currently recruiting an experienced Mine Surveyor for our team at MMG Dugald River.  This role reports to The Senior Mine Surveyor and will provide a reliable spatial information service in a safe and timely manner.   

This role will be based on an 8/6, drive in drive out (DIDO) from Cloncurry or Mt Isa or fly in fly out (FIFO) from Townsville or Brisbane. Relocation support will be available for successful candidates who reside outside of these locations.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • Underground surveying experience
  • Leica TS16 Total Station (or similar) experience
  • Void scanning technology experience (Optech, CMS and C-ALS etc.)
  • Spatial data manipulation software experience (Surpac, Deswik, Infinity etc.)
  • Experience at flying drones and have RePL – not essential but advantageous
  • Emersent Hovermap including dealing with point cloud data – not essential
  • Good knowledge of underground surveying techniques, Control setup and survey and Underground mining methods
  • Manual driver’s license.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure daily survey duties are performed to a high standard and in a timely matter to ensure mine operational activities.
  • Assist with completing month end measurements and reports as per the business requirements.
  • Ensure all underground voids are captured electronically and added to relevant files.
  • Ensure all spatial information required by operations to conform to mine designs is provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate and assist in planning and executing check surveys.
  • Track daily development firings, pick-ups and laser checks.
  • Assist in maintaining systems and records of survey information.
  • Actively participate in discussions with the Mine Technical Services team to support and promote agreed decisions of the team.
  • Maintain, build and enhance inter departmental relationships and communication.
  • Assist in producing a monthly mining over break report for all horizontal development.
  • Abide by Workplace Management Procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, visions and values, and MMG Code of Conduct.
