MMG Rosebery:

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.

With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028. This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.

MMG is about to embark on the largest drilling program ever at Rosebery; Project Legacy. New orebody knowledge has shown the growth opportunity across the tenement package to be high enough to facilitate intensive drilling programs from surface and underground. The aim is to support continued mining operations through the discovery of mineral resources critical for global demand, infrastructure, renewable technologies and electrification.

Project Geologist

Reporting to the Senior Project Geologist, the purpose of this support role is to contribute to the sustainability, growth and orebody knowledge of the Rosebery VHMS Deposit and prospects through the short-term management of surface and underground drill program designs, rig scheduling, geological data collection, geological modelling and contractor management.

This role is responsible for onsite delivery of Project Legacy which forms a cornerstone of the Life Extension Project at the operation.

The 8/6 roster is suitable for family orientated residential life in Rosebery or present as a DIDO opportunity to one of Tasmania’s other cities or towns.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness.
  • Knowledge of all drilling processes and exposure to contractor management.
  • Competencies in using 3D mining software (Leapfrog, Vulcan preferred).
  • Exposure in measuring and optimising drilling program performance and respond to mining and project schedules.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively on a long-to-short term basis.

 Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support target generation and ensure programs are designed to adequately discover, test and upgrade resources.
  • Drillhole design, drillhole tracking and management of diamond drilling activities including surface and underground resource testing to grade control drilling.
  • Logging and robust geological data collection from all diamond drill core maximising the value of drilling.
  • Review and ensure consistent geological data capture and interpretation.
  • Ensure that maximum value is extracted from all drilling and that high-quality data is captured to the drilling database (Geobank) with interpretation of Geological, structural, geochemical (assay and pXRF) and spectral datasets.
  • Generate lithological, mineralisation and structural models to be delivered to the Resource Geology team for JORC compliant resource estimation and MTS for mining.
  • Mange and deliver assigned projects relating to field and underground mapping along with ongoing orebody knowledge, ore characterisation and geometallurgical studies.
  • Monitor and report progress of drilling with strong communication, reporting and presentation skills.
  • Maintain open communication, collaboration and support from MTS, SHEC and Melbourne based teams.
  • Responsible for performance of QAQC protocols, regular reporting of QAQC performance and liaison with laboratory.
