Senior Mining Engineer - Production

MMG Rosebery:

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.

With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028.  This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.

The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance and employs over 500 employees and contractors who reside in the local region.

Senior Mining Engineer - Production  

Reporting to the Superintendent – Mine Engineering and Survey, you will manage and mentor a small team of high performing Production Engineers and support the Rosebery Operations operation to deliver against physical plans and strategic objectives by providing timely and workable mine designs and schedules.

This role is offered on a 5/2, 4/3 roster basis. Residential to Rosebery or DIDO from other locations in Tasmania.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • Demonstrable experience as a mine production engineer with a successful track record at the operational and planning level in metalliferous mining. 
  • Ability to lead, mentor and manage a small, high performing team.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in covering Scheduling, Drill and Blast, Underground Mine Ventilation and Mine Projects.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering are essential

Key responsibilities will include:

  • An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness
  • Supervise the Mine Production Engineering functions of short-term scheduling, drill and blast so that plans are safe, practical and efficient.
  • Developing, documenting and implementing formal mine production engineering processes which ensures that the geotechnical considerations and design recommendations are adequately considered in all design phases.
  • Provide rolling development and production schedules and other relevant information as required to the site operations and leadership team.
  • Review and recommend mining methods and design complete with economic analysis.
  • Assist in the development of mining strategies, priorities, programs, forecasts and budgets relating to mining requirements;
  • Maintain accurate records and information systems for critical mining data including drill and blast, load and haul, and survey information.
  • Ensure mining activities and expenditures are maintained in line with agreed strategies, priorities, programmes and budgets, including, managing systems for measuring operational performance and timing against targets, and providing subject matter expertise to determine solutions to technical and operational challenges.
  • Conduct regular underground inspections to ensure compliance to plan and identify and implement any improvement opportunities.
