Environment & Community Superintendent - 2 Year Fixed Term Contract - Rosebery Mine

Rosebery Mine is approximately 300 kilometres north-west of Hobart and 125 kilometres south of Burnie and prides itself on being a member of the local community. Annual production at Rosebery is expected to be around 55,000 – 65,000 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate.. We are an equal opportunity employer who values and respects diversity.

We are currently seeking a highly experienced Environment and Community Superintendent to join our team on a two year fixed term contract.  This role is reporting to the General Manager and will be accountable for developing and maintaining our licence to operate through compliance with internal and external environmental and social performance requirements, provide environmental and social leadership in our community, implement directives, improve performance, and ensure site environmental and social policies and procedures are aligned with Commonwealth and State regulations and legislation.

This unique position will help ensure our operation complies with all conditions of the Environmental Protection Notices and MMG internal standards through the development, implementation and adherence to a range of monitoring programs, management plans and procedures. In this role you will be responsible for establishing processes to monitor analyse and understand the impact of the operations on the surrounding environment and communities, direct and develop the site environmental and social performance team and ensure ongoing community support for the operation.  You will also deliver environmental approvals/permits to support both ongoing and expanded operations and develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.           

Bring with you your skills, experience and qualifications in the below;

  • Significant mining industry experience in the fields of environmental compliance, monitoring, permitting/approvals, stakeholder engagement, and/or environmental and social impact assessment is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational environmental management, stakeholder consultation and social performance. Successful implementation of environmental management systems.
  • Experienced in surface water, groundwater, air and noise quality monitoring, data management/interpretation and reporting.
  • Experience in leading and/or participating in SHEC related audits and inspections
  • Proven experience Leading and/or participating in incident investigation (ICAM)Experience in Australia, and in Tasmania would be a differential.
  • Track record of successfully leading regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement programs
  • Ability to understand and appropriately adapt regulatory and industry guidelines, and leading practices to meet MMG business objectives.
  • Strong communication skills written and oral with a focus on report writing, management plan development and implementation.
  • Analysis and communication of scientific information to senior management and non-technical audiences.
  • Apply objective, data-driven problem solving and sound judgement to decisions about environmental and social planning and implementation.
  • Strong project management skills, with ability to coordinate external consultant/contractor teams effectively across multiple projects concurrently.
  • Environmental database, GIS systems and mapping skills.
  • An understanding of the mining value chain and the key components (geological, mining, processing, tailings) of LoA planning, and their propensity for developing environmental and social impacts.
  • Excellent working knowledge of environmental and social management frameworks, and of the technical (Geochemical, Geotechnical, Hydrological, Environmental) and socio-economic interdependencies that can affect operations.
  • Working knowledge of study management, including key processes such as design criteria, options assessments, risk
  • A Bachelor’s Degree qualified Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist or Geoscientist.
  • Understanding or qualification in line with IAP2 Principles desired
  • Post graduate qualifications in Community Relations or Social Impact Assessment a differential.
