Senior Engineer - Mining - Rosebery Mine

Rosebery mine has had continuous production since 1936 that will extend beyond 2030. Rosebery operation is approximately 300 kilometres north-west of Hobart and 125 kilometres south of Burnie and has been operating continually for over 80 years. The operation prides itself on being a member of the local community. Annual production at Rosebery is expected to be around 55,000 – 65,000 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate. The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance that saw 2018 deliver record levels for mining, milling, zinc equivalent production and payable metal in product sold. We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer - Mining to join our busy and successful team in Tasmania.  Reporting to the Superintendent – Mine Technical Services, this position is focused on providing support to the operation to deliver against physical plans and strategic objectives by providing timely and workable mine designs and schedules - including managing the mine production engineers.

Bring your experience as a mine production engineer with a successful track record at the operational and planning level in metalliferous mining.  With a minimum 5 years experience with 2 years leading a team in underground mining, your expertise covers scheduling; drill and blast; underground mine ventilation; and mine projects.  Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering are essential.  We require a strategic thinker, a self-starter with a keen interest and strong experience and expertise in managing, motivating and coaching technical teams.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, documenting and implementing formal mine production engineering processes which ensures that the geotechnical considerations and design recommendations are adequately considered in all design phases.
  • Supervise the Mine Production Engineering functions of short term scheduling, drill and blast, and mine ventilation so that plans are safe, practical and efficient with the objective to maximise pre-tax NPV
  • Developing a productive and professional rapport with the group technical services team and provide technical mentoring to graduates and entry level technical staff.
  • Ensuring ongoing effective people management of staff by setting clear performance objectives, providing regular feedback and development through training/Managing of a team of 6-7 staff.
