Senior Orebody Knowledge Exploration Geologist

MMG Rosebery:

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.

With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028.  This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.

The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance and employs over 500 employees and contractors who reside in the local region.

Senior Orebody Knowledge Exploration Geologist

The Senior Orebody Knowledge Exploration Geologist will play a key role in the Mine Technical Services Team. Reporting to the Superintendent Geology, this role will provide orebody knowledge to the Rosebery site enabling a better understanding of the mine scale geology and apply this knowledge and understanding into improved value extraction of the resource. 

The role is offered on a 5/2, 4/3 roster basis.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness
  • A tertiary qualification in Geoscience
  • Detailed technical work on the geology of VHMSs deposits
  • Application of structural geology, geochemistry and geophysics in a mine environment
  • Geological modelling and input into resource definition and modelling
  • Working knowledge of Geometallurgy, processing, and mining
  • Competent ability to manage daily drilling activities and daily supervision of various contractor relationships
  • Good practical understanding of Underground Mining methods
  • A driver’s license will be essential and sound skills in MS Office, 3D geological software packages or GIS, as well as database and QAQC protocols.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Utilise orebody knowledge to facilitate and guide brownfields exploration for discovery of additional resources. De-risk geological uncertainty within orebody variability across the mining value chain.
  • Implement Orebody Knowledge studies at Rosebery
  • Expert level geology knowledge of the Rosebery deposit and region
  • Ownership of the geology knowledge and 3D model for the Rosebery mine and region
  • Develop and define a predictive structural model for the Rosebery deposit
  • Formulate, support, and oversee brownfields exploration
  • Liaison and collaboration with Mine Geoscientists and other regional based geologists to ensure best practice in Geoscience at Rosebery
  • Collaboration with Resource Geologists to ensure best practice geological inputs into resource modelling
  • Liaison with site management to ensure application of best practice Geoscience and understanding of the importance of findings from the orebody knowledge work for ongoing extraction and exploitation of the resource
