Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.
With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028. This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.
The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance and employs over 500 employees and contractors who reside in the local region.
The Rosebery Mine orebody is a VHMS type and provides us with many challenges and geological intrigue. The generous size, shape and grade distribution has allowed this orebody to be mined for many years, and with many more to come.
It is world class and provides an excellent learning opportunity to any geologist wanting to develop a career path. Mentoring and training go hand in hand with this position.
We are currently seeking a Mine Geologist to provide day to day underground mine geological services to the mining operation, in particular structural control, mapping and direction of underground development headings; planning of underground drilling activities; stope notes; reconciliation of producing stopes and collation of data in preparation for resource estimation.
This role will report to a senior geologist.
This role is offered on a flexible 8/6 roster as a residential role or DIDO from within Tasmania
Competencies, qualifications and skills:
An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness.
Tertiary qualifications in Geology
Australian manual class drivers’ licence
Proficiency in underground mapping, sampling methods and geological interpretation
Basic understanding and management of drilling techniques and activities
Ability to manage core processing and provide direction to field technicians
Strong technical, organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain positive working relationships with all levels of the operation
Demonstrated underground geology experience
Computer skills and proficiency in MS Office suite.
A working knowledge of a 3D mining software package and common database systems are desirable.
Key responsibilities will include:
Design and supervision of underground diamond drilling activities
Core logging and processing and underground inspections
Validation of geological data
Mapping and interpretation for inclusion in geological models
Developing and updating panel and stope notes
Daily maintenance of grade control data management and reporting
Assist in regular geological reports in material movement reconciliations
