Manager - Environment, Communities and Closure

MMG Rosebery:

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.

With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028.  This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.

The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance and employs over 500 employees and contractors who reside in the local region.

Manager - Environment, Communities and Closure

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Manager to lead The Environment, Communities and Closure teams at our Rosebery Operations.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining our licence to operate through compliance with internal and external environmental and social performance requirements, as well as delivering closure planning studies.

The role is offered on a permanent ongoing basis, on a 5/2, 4/3 or 8/6 roster residential in Rosebery or DIDO from other locations within Tasmania.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor degree qualified Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, Social Scientist or similar.
  • Post graduate qualifications in Community Relations or Social Impact Assessment a differential.
  • 15+ years of mining industry experience in the fields of environmental compliance, monitoring, permitting/approvals, closure studies, rehabilitation, stakeholder engagement, and/or environmental and social impact assessment.
  • Operational mine site and construction experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in study and project management.
  • Experience in Australia, and in Tasmania would be a differential.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Line management and budget accountability for a team of environmental, social and closure professionals
  • Manage the environmental, social and closure risk assessment process. Identify, appraise, communicate and develop response plans for all material risks.
  • Deliver environmental, social performance and closure inputs for the Integrated Business Planning process
  • Lead regulatory permitting submissions
  • Deliver annual EPN, NGERS, NPI and Sustainability reporting, ensuring data accuracy and quality.
  • Provide input into the technical components of the Rosebery climate resilience strategy
  • Delivering closure planning studies, external closure plans and closure cost estimates
  • Manage execution of progressive rehabilitation works and monitoring programs
  • Develop, implement and maintain the site Social Development and Community Plan.
  • Oversee community and other stakeholder engagement activities associated with operations, approvals and closure planning studies
