Ventilation Engineer

MMG Rosebery:

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.

With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028.  This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.

The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance and employs over 500 employees and contractors who reside in the local region.

Ventilation Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Ventilation Engineer to join our Technical Services team at Rosebery. Reporting to the Senior Engineer- Ventilation, you will play a key role to the Rosebery operations in delivering the budget and strategic objectives by providing timely and deep expertise in mine ventilation designs - including interaction with Group Technical Services (GTS) and other group functions.

This role represents a genuine career opportunity for a motivated professional.  This is a permanent residential role on a 4/3 5/2 residential roster, giving you the opportunity to become a member of the Rosebery community.  Naturally, MMG will support you with relocation to the area and provide generous housing assistance. 

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • Demonstrable mine engineering experience with extensive underground ventilation experience (metalliferous desirable).
  • Expertise in underground mine ventilation design, simulation, survey, monitor and reporting experiences
  • Understand statutory ventilation requirement for safe operation
  • Sound knowledge on ventilation equipment selection, construction, and maintenance requirements
  • Underground mining methods, including ventilation and drill and blast.
  • Working knowledge of Survey processes.
  • Well-developed analytical, interpretive and constructive / lateral thinking skills
  • Manual driver’s license.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Regularly provide mine operations teams and management with strategic ventilation updates and work with the mine Technical Services Team to optimise mine designs and ventilation considerations and necessary infrastructure
  • Carry out regular underground inspections and survey to coach and improve ventilation understanding and practices.
  • Contribute to the design and review of long-term ventilation designs as part of the annual Ore Reserve reporting and Life of Mine planning.
  • Oversee the necessary dust, noise, gas and atmospheric contaminants monitoring to meet statutory requirements for Rosebery mine
  • Support Senior Ventilation Engineer in generating and managing emergency escape plans for Rosebery Mine
  • Work with the site teams to improve primary and secondary ventilation practices.
  • Develop ventilation standards for all underground operations and implement best practices   and continuous improvement through on-site engagement and coaching.
  • Work on improvements to primary and secondary fans and assist mine operations in maintaining necessary stocks of each on site.
  • Minimise capital expenditure and mining workload, while matching primary and secondary ventilation delivered to ensure safe operations.
  • Maintain necessary ventilation models for all underground operations.
  • Support the Senior Ventilation Engineer in ensuring that The Management is adequately briefed on ventilation technical matters to make appropriate decisions.
  • Maintain site ventilation standards and ensure alignment with statutory requirements.
  • Develop close working relationship with Mine operation, Planning, Geotechnical, Production and MTS teams.
