MMG Rosebery:

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia and is 100% owned by MMG Limited.

With continuous production since 1936 Rosebery mine has current potential to extend life beyond 2028.  This underground mine has continually attracted and produced world class professionals. With a strong community focus and core values including safety and integrity, we are proud of our role in community development and our economic contribution to the local Tasmanian industry.

The operation continues to deliver excellent operational performance and employs over 500 employees and contractors who reside in the local region.

 Superintendent Environmental Projects

Reporting to the Manager Environment & Community, this role is responsible to deliver environmental projects required for the life extension studies, operational permitting requirements as well as deliver and update closure studies in accordance with the applicable MMG Standards

The role is offered on an 5/2,4/3 roster based out of either Rosebery or Burnie. This is a residential role with options to DIDO from other locations in Tasmania.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree qualified Environmental Engineer (alternatively Civil Engineer, Geologist or Environmental Scientist).
  • Post graduate qualifications in business, mining, environmental engineering, project management or social performance a differential.
  • C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Must be eligible for membership of a recognised professional organisation.
  • Excellent Project Management skills for large scale environmental projects
  • Ability to articulate mine closure requirements into different planning horizons (long, medium and short term).
  • Ability to understand and appropriately adapt regulatory and industry guidelines, and leading practices to meet MMG business objectives.
  • Constructive thinker and negotiator with the ability to influence others.
  • Analysis and communication of financial, engineering and scientific information to senior management and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent working knowledge of study management, including key processes such as options assessments, economic evaluation and project controls
  •  Working knowledge of mine closure planning frameworks, and of the technical (Mining, Civil, Geochemical, Geotechnical, Hydrological, Environmental, Ecological) and socioeconomic (Stakeholder / Community relations, economic development, social performance) interdependencies that can affect closure
  • Excellent working knowledge of regulatory approvals at a State and Commonwealth level
  • Demonstrated mining industry experience in the fields of mine closure, land remediation and/or environmental and social impact assessment.
  • Track record of leading multi-functional technical teams in the delivery of environmental studies or projects, as well as closure plans and cost estimates/financial guarantees that received Regulatory approval

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver major closure studies from the project scoping phase through to pre-feasibility phase, in accordance with the IBP Framework and supporting WQRs.
  • Develop synergies between the life extension, closure and long-term environmental studies to ensure overall better business outcomes.
  • Responsible for the lodgement of environmental impact statements and minor environmental approvals, and the development of material to support applications for environmental approvals in State and Commonwealth jurisdictions
  • Provide project and cost control management to all environmental projects (Closure and Life extensions studies)
  • Responsible for the lodgement of all environmental plans, procedures, safe working instructions, Notice of Intent, Statutory managements plans or requisite technical studies to support existing operations or planned project developments and activities
  • Ensure a close working relationship with Legal to ensure critical reviews are undertaken on any applicable changes to environmental regulations and policy and identify impacts to the business and / or environmental projects / studies
  • Build strong relationships with the Regulatory assessment teams and other critical stakeholders
  • Provide active support to the Manager Environment and Community in their environmental obligations and activities, and community/stakeholder engagement programs.
