Senior Reliability Engineer

MMG Dugald River:

The mine; Dugald River is fully owned by MMG Limited and is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc operation and is mined underground. Dugald River is expected to produce around 180,000 – 190,000 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate annually. The operation employs around 500 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis. 

Senior Reliability Engineer

Reporting to the Superintendent - Planning & Reliability, The Reliability Engineer is responsible for overseeing the Dugald River reliability function and ensuring that asset performance is monitored, improved and consistently available to meet the operational plan requirements.  The role also provides technical support and governance of areas of the operation which require the application of engineering principles

This role will be based on an 8/6 roster. MMG is supportive of our local communities and region. This role is available on a drive-in drive out basis (DIDO) from the Cloncurry or Mount Isa Districts. Relocation support will be available for successful candidates who reside outside of the local region who wish to relocate to the Cloncurry or Mount Isa districts. FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane is also available.

Qualifications, skills & competencies

  • Bachelor of Engineer in Mechanical or equivalent with a strong focus on Reliability methodology
  • Data Collection and Statistical Analysis skills, particularly of asset management metrics
  • Maintenance Tactics development processes (e.g. RRCM, OnePM)
  • Significant experience in a reliability engineering role in mining or heavy industry
  • Experience in Mining and Processing will be advantageous
  • Proven experience in leading, coaching and developing team
  • Engineering Standards (Australian Standards, Queensland Acts and Regulations)
  • RCA methodologies (FMEA, APOLLO, CED)
  • Computer literacy, proficient in use of Microsoft Office products, data analysis applications and experience in maintenance control databases and enterprise management software (SAP)
  • Condition Monitoring and Non-destructive testing methodologies
  • Data analytics methodologies
  • Underground infrastructure experience – Including ventilation, dewatering and MV reticulation
  • Sound knowledge of grinding, floatation, ISA mills, filter press and paste plant operations

Responsibilities include

  • Advising and conferring with Project Engineers to provide reliability-based recommendations for all new equipment installed on site
  • Reviewing engineering specifications/drawings and propose design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements
  • Developing, issuing, accepting, maintaining, and governing all technical documentation within the scope of subject matter expertise (including engineering standards, specifications, procedures, programmable devices, and drawings) from which the operation is designed, constructed, operated and maintained.
  • Leading, developing and coaching other Reliability Engineers, the condition monitoring team and train graduates and new engineers in Reliability modern principles and practices
  • Directing the site Condition Monitoring Team to provide predictive failure and early warning of equipment degradation using a mix of portable and fixed sensors and recording techniques
  • Ensuring equipment performance issues, identified through condition monitoring, are escalated and actioned to prevent unplanned downtime for corrective work
  • Creating and maintaining a Reliability Block Diagram for the Process Plant to identify critical equipment and components and ensure maintenance resources and funding is directed to the correct assets.
  • Ensuring maintenance strategies for critical equipment exist and are aligned to OEM requirements in both content and frequency of execution
  • Using data and reliability processes to focus improvement effort in achieving optimal availability of fixed equipment across both surface and underground operations
