Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.
We are seeking an exceptional Alternate Manager - Mine Operations to lead our underground metalliferous mining operation — a professional who thrives on responsibility, champions safety, and inspires high performance teams in one of the most challenging and rewarding environments in the industry.
This is more than a management role. It is a position of operational leadership, statutory accountability, and strategic influence.
As our Alternate Manager - Mine Operations, you will:
- Provide strong operational leadership and statutory coverage, ensuring seamless continuity of management in the absence of the Manager – Mine Operations.
- Lead underground activities to deliver safe, sustainable, and cost effective production outcomes.
- Ensure full compliance with legislative requirements, company standards, and site specific policies.
- Oversee contracting operations, ensuring alignment with commercial and procurement frameworks, and that robust, compliant contracts are in place for all contracted work.
- Drive organisational health across the Mining Department — building capability, maintaining strong morale, and ensuring the right people are in the right roles at the right time.
- Champion talent development and proactively manage succession planning to secure the future strength of the operation.
ABOUT YOU:
You bring substantial depth of experience and leadership capability within the mining industry, underpinned by strong operational and commercial acumen.
- Extensive experience in the mining sector, ideally with exposure to mine design and production scheduling.
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (desirable).
- First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency – Metalliferous Mining (desirable).
- Demonstrated success leading and coordinating underground mining operations.
- Proven capability in managing and supervising mining contractors within active site environments.
- Solid experience in contract administration, commercial oversight, and performance governance within a mining context.
- A strong track record of delivering safe, efficient, and cost effective outcomes in contractor-managed operations.
- Confidence working within multi-disciplinary teams and engaging effectively with a diverse range of site stakeholders.
- Experience undertaking contractor audits, performance evaluations, and compliance monitoring activities.
You are commercially astute, operationally disciplined, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and team performance.
