FUEL ASSISTANT (2 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Fuel Assistant will be responsible for supporting the effective and safe handling, dispensing, and recording of fuel for mobile and fixed mining equipment, ensuring accurate tracking of consumption and stock levels to support uninterrupted mining operations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Dispensing fuel to light and heavy-duty vehicles, machinery, and equipment according to schedules and site priorities.
- Recording fuel issues accurately, including vehicle/equipment details, operator name, meter readings, and quantities dispensed.
- Assisting in receiving and reconciling bulk fuel deliveries and reporting any shortfalls or discrepancies.
- Monitoring and reporting fuel levels in storage tanks and mobile bowsers.
- Maintaining cleanliness, safety, and security of the fuel bay, storage tanks, and related equipment.
- Supporting daily and monthly fuel stock reconciliations and audits.
- Identifying and reporting leaks, spillages, or irregularities in fuel usage or equipment performance.
- Complying with site SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) standards and always use appropriate PPE.
- Ensuring proper storage and labelling of fuel and lubricants according to safety regulations.
- Assisting in maintaining basic records such as fuel logbooks, delivery notes, and consumption summaries.
- Supporting planned maintenance shutdowns by ensuring timely fuelling of critical equipment.
- Participating in toolbox talks and safety briefings related to hazardous material handling.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- BGCSE certificate
- Certificate in Logistics, Fuel Handling, or related field is an added advantage
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in fuel handling, stock control, or logistics support
- Experience working in confined spaces and around mobile plant equipment
- Exposure to multi-functional sites or shutdown projects is an added advantage
