BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Improvement Engineer will be responsible for supporting the delivery of continuous improvement and value optimisation across the mining value chain. The Business Improvement Engineer will be collaborating with operational departments to identify value drivers, constraints, and improvement opportunities that enhance productivity, reducing unit costs, and improve overall business performance. The role supports the Senior Improvement Engineer in developing and implementing improvement initiatives aligning with the Integrated Asset Strategy and Integrated Business Planning processes, while influencing and motivating teams across the business to embody MMG’s value of “We Want to be Better.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Supporting the Senior Improvement Engineer in establishing and maintaining business improvement processes.
- Assisting departments in identifying value drivers, constraints, and buffers across the mining value chain.
- Facilitating value stream mapping (VSM) and value chain diagnostics.
- Assisting with identifying, prioritising, and tracking improvement initiatives.
- Developing dashboards and reporting tools using data analytics (Excel, Power BI, databases).
- Monitoring performance against business plan targets and highlighting variances.
- Supporting operational departments in root cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Assisting in data collection and validation for value optimisation initiatives.
- Participating in cross-functional workshops to identify operational bottlenecks.
- Supporting communication and reporting of improvement initiatives to management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in mining engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline
- Registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) or eligibility to register
- Minimum of 2–5 years operational or technical experience within mining, mineral processing, or related engineering disciplines
- Previous site-based operational and/or technical experience highly regarded
- Has planned and executed continuous improvement projects
- Optional: Comprehensive international experience in similar underground mining operations with various roles and sites over the world
- Knowledge of the whole mining value chain
- Knowledge of key principles of database management
