The key purpose of this role is to provide strategic direction to the EGM Exploration and Country Managers to enable effective and consistent Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) risk management within the Exploration Business. This will be achieved by developing and implementing a fit for purpose Exploration SHEC Management System that is aligned with the broader MMG SHEC Strategy and that sits within a framework that recognises cultural diversity, dynamic working conditions and most importantly is flexible to accommodate the escalating stages (ie scalability) of Exploration Activity.
Based at our Group Office in Southbank, Melbourne and reporting to the Executive General Manager Exploration, the key challenges you will face in this role will be aligning contractors and joint venture partners with MMG SHEC requirements, alignment of risk / project management practices across all exploration regions taking into account global geographic spread with cultural diversity and managing local land holders and community perceptions.
To successfully meet these challenges, you will be tasked with:
- Providing appropriate service and support to management in order to achieve operations free from negative safety, health, environmental and community incidents
- Developing and managing of the centralised Exploration risk register, ensuring clear links to procedural requirements and training needs.
- Leading a consistent approach to risk management across the business by developing and implementing risk reduction / management programs through the preparation of an Annual Exploration SHEC Objectives and Targets and Improvement plan
- Preparing Project SHEC Management Plans, Inductions and Emergency Response Plans for all high risk exploration programs
- Educating the Exploration workforce on the importance of hazard, near miss and incident reporting
- Leading effective incident investigations using the ICAM methodology
- Preparing timely reports for the EGM Exploration and Group SHEC Management of significant / reportable incidents
- Co-ordinating and preparing the Monthly and Quarterly SHEC reports and the Annual Sustainable Development report for the Exploration Group
- Designing, implementing and coordinating management systems to track performance in relation to SHEC and monitoring / prioritisation of SHEC Risk and Exposure
- Actively participating in OH&S and Environment Group Network Meetings
- Actively participating and representing MMG in the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) Land Management Working Group
- Travelling regularly to MMG's global Exploration Sites to maintain a hands on approach to SHEC management
We require you to be an experienced SHEC professional. In considering your application, we will look for demonstrated experience in risk management, safety system design and implementation and ICAM investigation / training. Additionally we will look for capability to understand of behavioural safety concepts, practical knowledge of RIMS, strong report writing skills and auditing capability. It is essential that you have experience in the mining industry, ideally with a good understanding of an Exploration function.
We will provide you with an excellent remuneration package with the addition of a short term incentive and gym membership along with the opportunity to make a significant impact on the safety performance of MMG's Exploration group. Travel is a key component of this role with regular site visits both domestically and internationally required.
