Dugald River mine is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc mine operations, which has been producing zinc concentrate for customers around the world since 2017.

The mine is committed to a low-carbon future. In April 2023 the Dugald River Solar Farm began operations, supplying a third of the mine’s power, and reducing emissions by 33% and this is just the start of its renewable energy transition.

Dugald River employs around 750 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis. The village provides all the amenities including a gym, with a women’s only area, a tennis court, swimming pool, walking track and entertainment area.  

Geologist – Mine

Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the role will provide day to day underground mine geological services to the mining operation which include structural and lithological mapping of underground development headings; logging of diamond drill holes; input into the stope notes; reconciliation of production stopes and development headings and collation of data in preparation for resource estimation.

This role will be based on an 8/6, drive in drive out (DIDO) from Cloncurry or Mt Isa or fly in fly out (FIFO) from Townsville or Brisbane. Relocation support will be available for successful candidates who reside outside of these locations.

Qualifications Skills and Competencies:

• This role would ideally be suited to an experienced Mine Geologist looking to expand their knowledge and capability within a supportive team environment. 
• Tertiary qualifications in Geology with demonstrated underground geology experience and sound computer skills.
• Working knowledge of Vulcan software is desirable
• Strong technical, organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proactive attitude towards safety.
• Australian manual Class (car) driver’s license and Forklift license
• Previous exposure to underground mapping, photogrammetry and geological interpretation
• Basic understanding and management of drilling techniques and activities
• Ability to manage core processing and provide direction to field technicians

Key responsibilities will include:

• Core logging, processing, and underground inspections
• Validation of geological data
• Mapping and interpretation for inclusion in geological models
• Developing and updating panel and stope notes
• Daily maintenance of grade control data management and reporting
• Assist in regular geological reports and in material movement reconciliations
• Collaborate with other team members to support and meet the geology departments assigned targets
