About MMG Rosebery
Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 workers and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
MMG has an office in Burnie, giving employees the flexibility when they are not required onsite.
Rosebery is located on Tasmania's west coast in close proximity to Strahan and a couple of hours drive from Burnie and Devonport. Rosebery offers exceptional outdoor experiences with fishing, canoeing, white water rafting, rock climbing and walking at your doorstep.
Exploration Geologist
Reporting to The Senior Exploration Geologist, this role is responsible to organise and implement exploration programs and orebody knowledge studies at Rosebery by adding significant value to the business through resource extension.
This role supports the Exploration function through detailed Geoscience work in the field, UG and on drillcore through mapping, logging and modelling. This role will be responsible for the generation of a district-scale structural model while aiding in the creation and maintaining of the Rosebery structural model when required.
The role is offered on a 8/6 roster basis.
Competencies, qualifications and skills:
- An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness
- A tertiary qualification in Geoscience
- Experience in complex base metal deposits, particularly VHMS
- Understanding of best practice exploration techniques, database and QAQC protocols
- In-mine and near-mine exploration program development and management
- Intimate knowledge of all drilling methods
- Good practical understanding of Underground Mining methods
- A manual driver’s license will be essential
Key responsibilities will include:
- Demonstrate MMG’s SHEC values through personal behaviours and conversations, ensuring all activities are carried out to the highest standard of safety.
- Support and oversee brownfields exploration that effectively tests the site’s growth targets with supervision of staff and contractors and statutory reporting.
- Assist with the implementation of orebody knowledge studies completed at Rosebery.
- Assist with the integration of all geodata into 3D dimensional models that facilitate target generation, ore extraction improvement and orebody knowledge studies.
- Lead the development of a predictive structural model for the Rosebery district by integration all geodata that will facilitate the Rosebery deposit structural model and target generation.
