MMG’s Melbourne head office currently has a vacancy for a Principal Mining Engineer (Open Pit). Located within our Support and Life of Asset Planning Group, and with a focus on long term planning and continuous improvement, the purpose of this role is to:
- support our operating assets to safely deliver to plan and schedule
- provide engineering leadership to build capability and achieve operational efficiencies
- provide expert integrated risk and assurance support in key technical areas
- provide expert advice to merger, acquisition, and project development activities
This is an exciting opportunity to work as the group specialist for open pit mining, alongside peers covering closure, mine geology, underground, improvement and processing. With a track record of continuous improvement and innovation, this dynamic technical team has a vision to optimise and improve the performance and sustainability of our operating assets.
To be considered, we ideally seek:
- extensive mining engineering experience across the various aspects related to large scale base metal open pit mining operations,
- experiences and expertise in long term mine planning, operational constraints, and operational efficiency
- strong working knowledge of continuous improvement processes and methods.
- advanced mine planning knowledge and software skills
- skills in problem solving and constructive thinking in relation to mining operations.
- demonstrated ability to provide detailed advice on planning and operational issues
- ability to work with engineering teams to plan future open pit to underground transitions
- bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline (Mining Engineering)
As a result of the scale and significance of our operating asset in Peru (Las Bambas), candidates with a proficiency in the Spanish language, together with experiences with base metals mining operations in the South American region will be highly regarded.
