Superintendent-Mining

Dugald River mine in Northern Queensland is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc mine operations, which has been producing zinc concentrate for customers around the world since 2017.

The mine is committed to a low-carbon future, with a Dugald River Solar Farm, supplying a third of the mine’s power and reducing emissions by 33% and this is just the start of its renewable energy transition.

Dugald River employs around 750 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis.

Superintendent-Mining

Reporting to the Manager-Mine, the Superintendent -Mining will direct and coordinate the operational team through planning, coordination, and implementation of all underground mining activities required for optimal mine development.

This role is offered on a 8/6 roster FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane and DIDO/BIBO from Cloncurry & Mt.Isa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe production is the primary focus of all underground mining activities
  • Promote continuous improvement to the operation by driving accountability and responsibilities through the team
  • Ensure compliance to weekly and monthly work schedules to ensure compliance with Life of Mine Schedule and all safety and budgetary requirements
  • Achieve set targets consistent with the schedule  and ensure mining is in line with site requirements
  • Review and coordinate the update of procedures and systems to ensure consistency of team activities.
  • Ensure timely resolution of issues through facilitating regular communication and reviews with operations and project teams where necessary
  • Contribute to the achievement of operational and departmental goals by effectively managing and monitoring labour resource requirements and ensuring that permanent staff are adequately trained and supported.
  • Scope projects, assign priorities and set tasks for direct reports to maintain workload equity whilst ensuring individual professional diversity and continued learning exists in meeting long and short term organisational objectives
  • Maintain, monitor and develop performance of Supervisors within Operations Team to ensure current and future needs of the Team are met
  • Contribute to overall business improvement and profitability by developing and implementing efficiency plans and cost reduction plans where possible within the department whilst supporting organisational objectives and achievement of set targets
  • Ensure compliance to departmental budgets
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and statutory requirements in order to minimise the companies risk exposure and liabilities

About You

To be considered, your skills should include:

  • Demonstrable leadership experience within the mining industry
  • Well developed interpersonal skills and ability to manage a direct supervising team
  • S1,S2,S3 Competency
  • (Desired but not essential) Queensland First class Manager’s certificate of Competency for underground metalliferous mines
  • Exposure and experience with a variety of mining equipment
