Dugald River Mine is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc mine operations, which has been producing zinc concentrate for customers around the world since 2017.
The mine is committed to a low-carbon future. In April 2023 the Dugald River Solar Farm began operations, supplying a third of the mine’s power, and reducing emissions by 33% and this is just the start of its renewable energy transition.
Dugald River employs around 750 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis.
Advisor - Operational Risk
Dugald River is looking for a Risk Advisor to be a leader in the implementation of the site Material Risk Management program. We are looking for an experienced Safety or Risk professional who has a strong interest in working strategically with leaders to prevent unwanted events, and ensure our people get home safely.
This site-based role, reporting to the Superintendent – Risk and Audit, involves defining high risk hazards through facilitation of Bowtie Risk Assessments and working with Risk Owners to identify and define critical controls. We are looking for a proactive leader to engage directly with our management team to align the site’s risk management process to industry standards while adapting to the evolving needs of the operation.
Offered on an 8/6 roster; drive in drive out (DIDO) from Cloncurry or Mt Isa or fly in fly out (FIFO) from Townsville or Brisbane.
Qualifications, skills & competencies
- 5 years or more in a heavy industry or mining operation, in particular underground hard rock mining and/or surface flotation processing activities.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitation of risk assessments, with proficiency in risk management systems and processes.
- Ability to develop strong and trusting relationships with colleagues at all levels while working in a complex environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to distil key messages for relevant target audiences across all levels of site. Strong problem-solving capabilities and a strict attention to detail.
- Familiarisation with ISO31000:2018 Risk Management Guidelines, Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act (1999) and Regulations (2017).
- Awareness of the ICMM Critical Control Management – Good Practice Guide and Implementation Guide 2015.
- Qualification in G2: Risk Management - RIIRIS301E: Apply risk management processes.
- Desirable to have Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and G3: G-MIRM Risk Management Systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with operational teams to facilitate Bowtie Analysis for Dugald River’s Material Risks.
- Support Risk Owners and Control Owners with identification of critical controls, verification and reporting of those controls, and effective response to inadequate critical control performance.
- Professional collation of information and data for input into the site Material Risk Management process.
- Provide coaching and training to leaders on risk management principles and processes.
