MMG Rosebery

Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.

The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.

It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.

The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.

MMG Rosebery has an office in Burnie (Tasmania), giving employees the flexibility to work from there when they are not required onsite.

Junior Surveyor

We are seeking a Junior Underground Mine Surveyor to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with prior survey experience who is looking to begin their career in underground mine surveying.

This role will see you work in an established team of experienced surveyors who report to the Senior Mine Surveyor. You will work closely with the Technical Services and Operation Mining Teams to deliver surveying tasks on surface and underground.

The role is offered as either a residential or DIDO (Drive-In/Drive-Out) in/to Rosebery on a 7:7 roster.   

Shared accommodation in Rosebery will be provided for DIDO arrangements or alternatively benefit from your own private housing (provided) for residential workers.

Key Accountabilities (however not limited to):

  • Underground Surveying: Assist with the execution of surveying activities, including survey mark ups, control surveys, and surveys of underground development and stope workings.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Accurately collect and process survey data using modern survey equipment and software. Analyse and interpret survey data to support mine planning and development.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Assist in monitoring changes in mine layouts and compliance with design. Record and report any discrepancies or issues observed during surveying activities.
  • Maintaining Survey Plans: Assist in creating and maintaining detailed survey maps, plans, and diagrams, reflecting the current underground and surface workings.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other mining teams such as engineers, geologists, and operators to ensure surveys tasks align with operational requirements.
  • Equipment Management: Operate, maintain, and calibrate surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS systems, and laser scanning equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations while working underground. Contribute to safety audits and risk assessments when required.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of survey data, reports, and drawings, ensuring proper storage and retrieval for future reference.

About You

To be successful, you will have an unwavering commitment to safe work practices, and MUST be able to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screen, along with the following:

  • A relevant Surveying qualification – Cert IV or higher (required), university surveying degree preferrable.
  • 2+ years experience working in a similar position within the Civil or Mining industry (desirable);
  • Proficiency using a range of relevant programs and software such as AutoCad 3D Civil and Deswick (desirable);
  • Experience with GPS, Total Stations and Lidar Scanners desirable;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management and the ability to forward think
  • A proven history with safe work practises, with the ability to identify and address unsafe practices.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence, Manual licence preferable
