Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.
MMG Rosebery has an office in Burnie (Tasmania), giving employees the flexibility to work from there when they are not required onsite.
Mining Supervisor
Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, the role of Mining Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations as planned for underground mining.
This role involves coordinating the implementation of underground mine activities required for optimal mine development and production activities at minimal cost to the company, while upholding high-quality safety standards in line with relevant statutory obligations.
It also ensures that the mine service team is adequately supervised while working closely with our training and technical services department.
Key Accountabilities (however not limited to):
- Manage mine support activities including charge-up, services, rehab, development load, and haul activities.
- Monitor task progress and ensure adherence to plans.
- Plan and control priorities to achieve associated support activities in accordance with weekly schedule requirements using appropriate management systems.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of current mine schedules and an awareness of the current critical issues to achieving plan targets.
- Understand cost drivers in the mining operations section and seek improvement in unit cost performance.
- Monitor performance and report the cause of all variances that prevent the services and shift plan from being achieved, and produce actions to rectify.
- Identify and document operational and maintenance work requirements using the work requests system.
- Plan and control the development of personnel to achieve production, development, and associated support activities in accordance with weekly schedule requirements using appropriate management systems.
- Assist with training and succession planning for shift personnel to ensure long-term schedule requirements are met.
- Conduct shift-level inspections using inspection sheets to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.
- Focus on safety by identifying hazards, rectifying issues, and ensuring all personnel adhere to safety protocols and procedures.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging hazard identification and implementing corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Adherence at all times to the MMG Code of Conduct. Comply with MMG’s values of Safety, Integrity, Action, and Results, which form the basis of and underpin all MMG’s business relationships.
About You
To be successful, you will have an unwavering commitment to safe work practices, and MUST be able to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screen, along with the following:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an underground mining environment with a minimum of 12 months supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of relevant Mine legislation
- Proven experience in leading a team
- Understanding of OH&S and HR/IR Principals
- Self-motivated, forward thinker with exceptional organisational skills
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to positively influence and negotiate direct reports
- A proven history with safe work practises, with the ability to identify and address unsafe practices and lead by example.
