Training Advisor - Mining

Dugald River mine is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc mine operations, which has been producing zinc concentrate for our clients around the world since 2017. 

In April 2023, our commitment to a sustainable future saw the beginning of the Dugald River Solar Farm operations, supplying a third of the mine’s power, and reducing emissions by 33%; this is just the start of our renewable energy transition. 

Training Advisor - Mining

Reporting to the Training Coordinator, this role will support the design, development and delivery of training programs at Dugald River. It will focus on building the skills and competencies of underground and general site personnel to safely and effectively perform the tasks associated with their roles.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in an end-to-end training role; identifying training needs, sourcing best-practice training resources to match those needs, delivering the training, assessing competency and recording data.

This role will be based on an 8/6 roster, drive in drive out (DIDO) from Cloncurry or Mt Isa or fly in fly out (FIFO) from Townsville or Brisbane. Relocation support will be available for successful candidates who reside outside of these locations.

Qualifications, skills & competencies

  • Strong understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and current national/state training and qualification standards.
  • Knowledge of national and state mining acts, regulations, and AQTF Training & Assessment methods.
  • Proven competency in, or demonstrable understanding of the operation of mining production and ancillary equipment.
  • Experience in training and operational roles in Underground Metalliferous mines.
  • Skilled in preparing and delivering training packages, including inductions, onboarding, and role-specific competencies.
  • High-level facilitation and presentation skills, with adaptability in coaching and assessment.
  • Effective relationship-building and collaboration skills.
  • Solid understanding of risk assessment and mitigation processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and business software applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, maintain, and deliver inductions, onboarding, safety, and competency-based training for underground and site operations.
  • Provide classroom and on-the-job training, assessment, and verification of competency (VOC) for mining personnel.
  • Mentor and provide support to Mine Crew Trainers within the mining crews to ensure that best on-the-job training outcomes for trainees are achieved.
  • Manage training and assessment records, ensuring accurate storage in the MMG LMS and document filing system.
  • Use LMS reports to update Training Needs Analysis, skills matrices, and compliance requirements; communicate findings to stakeholders and ensure training needs are met.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and addressing gaps in training systems, assisting with remedial actions.
  • Perform routine and ad-hoc tasks to support Training Department compliance and objectives.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to develop training schedules and content.
  • Coordinate training needs and schedules, keeping stakeholders informed.

Remuneration for this role includes a competitive salary package, annual bonus and generous local allowances for employees living in the local community of Cloncurry and Mt Isa.
