Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.
MMG Rosebery has an office in Burnie (Tasmania), giving employees the flexibility to work from there when they are not required onsite.
Coordinator - Tailings Support
Reporting to the Superintendent - Processing this role will see you provide strategic and operational support for tailings storage facility (TSF) operations, including planning, coordinating, and executing small-scale operational projects that enhance safety, efficiency, and compliance.
Support the site’s long-term TSF3 development plans by providing insights from operational experience, contributing to risk assessments, and assisting with integration of new processes and infrastructure into existing operations.
Offered on a DIDO or Residential to Rosebery working a 5:2 / 4:3 roster, on a 2-year fixed term contract.
Responsibilities Include (however not limited to):
- Actively liaise with Major Capital Projects teams to understand the scope, schedule, and potential impacts of major TSF works, ensuring operational continuity and alignment with site objectives. Monitor and report on project progress, identify risks or operational constraints, and implement practical solutions to maintain safe and efficient TSF operations.
- Understand and implement the tailings deposition plan provided by the Engineer or Record, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution.
- Coordinate vegetation management activities, including tree clearing, weed control, and sludge growth mitigation in seepage systems, in conjunction with management plans and availability of supervision support.
- Monitor and review tailings instrumentation data and instrument health in conjunction with the Manager Tailings and Water and the Engineer or Record; act as the primary contact for instrument issues, coordinating with operational maintenance teams and external data support contractors to ensure reliable performance.
- Project Manage sludge removal and storage projects, ensuring operational requirements are met while maintaining compliance with environmental standards across all tailing’s facilities.
- Support and manage the implementation of recommendations from Tailings Audits, including monthly, annual, biennial, and five-yearly reviews, to maintain operational integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Assist during high-demand operational periods by executing tasks, planning labour resources, and managing small project timelines to ensure safe and efficient outcomes.
- Abide by Workplace Management Procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, visions and values, and MMG Code of Conduct.
About You
- Civil or Geotechnical Engineering Degree
- AusIMM Professional Certificate in Tailings Management (desirable)
- Tailings Surveillance training (desirable)
- Technical knowledge in operational, construction, governance and / or design experience with civil works or tailings dams
- Project Management experience with the ability to deal with conflicting priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to engage, influence, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Clear verbal and effective document writing skills, including procedures, work instructions, and project documentation.
- Attention to detail, strong organisational skills with a focus on quality and operational compliance.
- A willingness to work collaboratively as a team and support the Company Values
- Commitment to safety and operational excellence with a high level of safety awareness associated with risk-based decision making.
- A manual C Class driver’s license
- Ability to pass a Police Clearance, Pre employment Medical and DAS.
