Senior Advisor - Health & Safety

Dugald River Mine is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc mine operations, which has been producing zinc concentrate for customers around the world since 2017.

The mine is committed to a low-carbon future. In April 2023 the Dugald River Solar Farm began operations, supplying a third of the mine’s power, and reducing emissions by 33% and this is just the start of its renewable energy transition. 

Dugald River employs around 750 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis.

Senior Health and Safety Advisor

MMG’s Dugald River Mine is seeking an experienced Senior Advisor – Health & Safety to support the delivery, coordination, and assurance of health and safety activities across a large-scale, mining operation encompassing underground mining, exploration, processing, and logistics.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Superintendent you will be responsible for the delivery of Safety and Health activities onsite.

This is a hands-on role suited to a safety professional who is confident operating in dynamic environments, coordinating safety initiatives and improvement projects, and ensuring safety systems continue to mature as the operation progresses.

You will work closely with operational leaders, SHEC team members, and technical specialists to ensure risks are effectively managed and safety performance continues to improve as we mine for progress.

The role is available on a drive in, drive out basis (DIDO) from Cloncurry or Mount Isa Districts on an 8/6 roster, or FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane on an 8/6 roster. An attractive additional incentive is available to employees who live or move into the Cloncurry township. MMG is supportive of our local communities and region and persons of Kalkadoon heritage and other local Indigenous are encouraged to apply.

 

Qualifications, Competencies & knowledge highly desired.

  • Qualifications in relevant Safety and/or Health discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in similar roles with strong stakeholder relationship skills and delivery focus.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Knowledge and application of Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Acts and Regulations

Responsibilities include:

  • Work within the Dugald River Safety and Health Management System to support compliance with MMG standards and applicable legislative requirements.
  • Positively influence and provide subject matter expertise to support the onsite health and safety culture.
  • Facilitate and support a safe and healthy work environment through visible field engagement and coaching.
  • Compile, validate, and contribute to health and safety statistics and reporting for DRM, MMG, and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate occupational hygiene monitoring and associated processes, including review and reporting of results.
  • Conduct and coordinate health and safety awareness activities, including legislative requirements, hazard identification, risk management, and safe use of equipment.
  • Drive and support safety, health, hygiene and emergency response improvement projects.
  • Maintain health and safety data in accordance with site recording and reporting Work Quality Requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and occupational injuries to determine causes, support the implementation of preventative measures, and assist with return-to-work coordination where required.
  • Lead the facilitation of ICAM investigations.
  • Support the maintenance of emergency response readiness through participation in assurance, training, and review activities.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees and frontline leaders on health and safety initiatives and required improvements.
  • Identify and promote best practice and continuous improvement opportunities to reduce work process risks, improve work practices, and raise health and safety awareness.

Remuneration for this role includes a competitive salary package, annual bonus and generous local allowances for employees living in the local community of Cloncurry and Mt Isa.
