Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.
Superintendent - Metallurgy
Reporting to the Manager Surface Operations, you will play a key role in driving and managing Rosebery’s processing efficiency and improvement and providing technical support for all processing aspects within the Rosebery Concentrator in the medium term. You will ensure quality technical support is delivered , through detailed job scope planning, task list development, short- and medium-term processing improvement projects, integrated production reporting.
You are expected to have a pro-active approach to driving process improvement opportunities, and sound commercial awareness, excellent relationship skills and proven capability to deliver successful processing production improvement outcomes.
The role is offered on a 5/2, 4/3 residential roster from Rosebery and DIDO from other parts of Tasmania.
What you will be doing:
- Lead in the delivery of key metallurgical operational targets.
- Proactively support and lead Metallurgical troubleshooting of operational performance
- issues.
- Identify and deliver continuous improvement through a structured change management process (identification of key variances and the development of appropriate solutions)
- Lead the development of Metallurgical improvement project plan.
- Lead Metallurgy team to ensure delivery of baseline and improved recovery of payable minerals.
- Co-ordinate training and development programme in conjunction with succession planning for the Metallurgy team.
- Monitor and control cost drivers to within budgeted expenditure whilst seeking cost reduction opportunities.
- Identify business growth opportunities through technical analysis of existing processes and seek to implement improvements based on industry best practice and new technologies
- Improve the metallurgical efficiency and production rates of the processing facilities
- Ensure quality is tracked from stockpile to product.
- Generate accurate Budgets and Forecasts in line with Business Planning Requirements
- Liaise with mining and geology teams to maximise value generation from available ore sources.
- Coordinate radiation and hazardous material management in line with established site processes.
- Generate budgets and forecasts for processing physicals and costs.
About you:
- Demonstrable experience in various Metallurgical roles incorporating crushing, grinding, flotation and gravity gold recovery.
- Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgical/Process/Chemical Engineering
- Experience in base metal processing plants and the operational aspects of crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening concentrate and tailings management.
- Important to the role will be your excellent written and verbal communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, including people leadership and management.
- sound experience working across multiple site operations and demonstrated effectiveness as a people manager.
- A strong knowledge of base metals flotation operations, proficiency in processing test work design, metallurgy accounting practices, business improvement in processing technical disciplines, cost management and budget development will be highly desirable.
