BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Manager- Social Performance will be responsible for leading and Managing the mine’s social performance strategy by fostering sustainable community relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance, overseeing community development initiatives, and safeguarding the company’s social licence to operate.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Developing and implementing the Social Performance Strategy aligned with corporate sustainability objectives and life-of-mine plans.
- Leading stakeholder engagement initiatives with host communities, traditional leaders, government authorities, and NGOs.
- Ensuring compliance with national legislation, ESIA commitments, and international standards such as IFC Performance Standards.
- Establishing and managing grievance mechanisms to ensure timely and transparent resolution of community concerns.
- Overseeing resettlement action plans and managing livelihood restoration programmes where applicable.
- Collaborating with Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Operations to align localisation, employment strategies, and community commitments.
- Representing the company in community forums, regulatory meetings, stakeholder engagements, and public consultations.
- Ensuring alignment of social initiatives with ESG frameworks and company sustainability reporting standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Sociology, Public Administration, Environmental Management, or related field
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in social performance, community relations, or sustainability roles
- At least 3–5 years in a managerial capacity
- Postgraduate qualification in Sustainability, Development, or Business Management (advantageous)
- Certification in stakeholder engagement or ESG frameworks (preferred)
- Experience in the mining, energy, or large infrastructure sectors preferred
- Proven contract negotiation skills as well as contractor management experience, specifically an underground hard rock mining environment.
- Valid driver’s license
