BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Senior Mine Planning Engineer – STP Scheduling will be responsible for short-term production scheduling, translating approved Asset Business Plan (ABP) designs and planning inputs into a practical rolling schedule and weekly operational plans.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Translating broadly stated company objectives into a detailed three-month rolling plan.
- Developing and maintaining a 3-month rolling integrated production schedule for underground activities aligned to the approved Budget.
- Translating the 3-month plan into detailed weekly schedules.
- Ensuring the operational schedule compliance in relation to: Development, Slot raises, Stope drilling, Charging and blasting, Mucking, and Paste backfilling.
- Participating in weekly production schedules with operations teams.
- Supporting short interval control (SIC) processes to track schedule performance.
- Monitoring actual performance against the short-term schedule.
- Analyzing deviations in production tonnage, development meters, drill and blast performance, and equipment utilization.
- Producing monthly planning reports highlighting: Variances from plan, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining work quality requirements and work instructions for Scheduling activities
- Training and developing knowledge and skills in the mine scheduling team to ensure high standards of work, succession planning and continual coverage.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in an underground mining environment with at least 3 years spent in mine planning and scheduling.
- Underground Mining Blasting License would be an added advantage.
- Registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Botswana or eligible for registration.
- Experience managing short-term production schedules in underground operations.
- Operational underground experience in mechanized would be an added advantage.
- Experience in Long hole Open stoping design and planning will be advantageous.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of mining engineering, including industry best practices and current theory in Scheduling
- Expert proficiency in Deswik.CAD, Deswik.Sched, Deswik.IS and SO, or any mine planning and scheduling software, are highly regarded.
- Ability to develop, implement, and maintain work standards.
- Data analysis and reporting
- Risk and constraint analysis.
