Mining Engineer Underground

MMG is expanding our hub in Johannesburg to provide support to our exploration, operational and project activities at our Kinsevere and Khoemacau mining operations.  We are pleased to advise that as part of this expansion, we seek a Mining Engineer (Underground) to focus on our Khoemacau (KCM) operation and expansion projects.

Reporting into the Principal Mining Engineer, the purpose of this role it to:

• Develop mining inputs for KCM’s Life of Mine (LOM), Ore Reserve and Budget/Forecast mine plans, and in the Integrated Business Plan (IBP) process, with a focus on the Strategic Development Plan (SDP) and Annual Business Plan (ABP).
• Provide strategic long-term planning and scheduling expertise and process support to KCM, as directed by the Principal Mining Engineer.
• Plan and schedule mining activities in line with safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures.
• Help develop a flexible, cost-focused planning approach that meets production priorities and targets.
• Support mine planning projects and ensure adherence to LOM schedules.
• Work with the Principal Mining Engineer to identify and assess LOM opportunities across MMG assets.
• Participate in studies, projects, mergers and acquisitions, and mine planning analyses for the Africa region, as determined by the Principal Mining Engineer.
• Support KCM in cut-off grade calculations.
• Produce data and documentation to support the Competent Persons responsible for KCM Ore Reserves.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across an expanding underground operation and work closely with site teams to add value, reduce risk and achieve operational efficiencies.  To be considered, we ideally seek:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline
• Membership of, or eligibility for, a recognised professional body
• Strong underground mining experience, including in an operational mine planning role
• Experience in Open pit including Operational Mine planning an advantage
• Highly developed long-term underground mine planning skills, with the ability to quickly spot critical issues and opportunities in a mine plan
• Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g. Deswik)
• Working knowledge of Ore Reserves and JORC Code reporting requirements
• Strong technical leadership, problem-solving and communication skills, with a track record of building relationships with operational leaders, multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders
