DATABASE GEOLOGIST

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION: 

The Database Geologist will be responsible for managing, validating and assuring security and integrity of exploration data by ensuring that a functional geological database is in place for efficient use in geological modelling and mineral resource estimation.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key accountabilities include:

• Maintaining high data integrity by ensuring adherence to quality assurance quality control (QAQC) set standards and procedures
• Uploading collar survey, downhole survey, samples, assay, geological and geotechnical data into Geobank database following the set QAQC procedures.
• Auditing of drill hole data and ongoing validation of newly added data, with emphasis on the attributes critical to geology modelling, resource estimation and mine planning, location, orientation, lithology, geotechnical, sample and assay data.
• Manipulation and extraction of data using structured query language scripting
• Keeping sample ledger books showing data captured onto database.
• Conducting routine internal process audits and lab audits to ensure adherences to both company and industry standards
• Compilation of monthly and quarterly QAQC reports
• Liaising with analytical laboratories and bulk transport suppliers for efficient sample transport, tracking and analysis
• Maintaining exploration software configuration (Geobank, Leapfrog, MapInfo, IoGas, ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Acting as the document management champion for the exploration department by filing, archiving, and maintaining all reports electronically
• Backing up and restoring databases within the set timeframes.
• Supporting the monitoring of compliance with SHEC regulations by providing financial data and reports that help identify areas of concern

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE: 

• Bachelor of Science (Geology)
• Minimum of 5 years' postgraduate experience in exploration and management of data/databases
• Proven experience in the use of exploration, geological modelling, data management software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, Leapfrog, Geobank, MapInfo, acQuire) and Microsoft office products.
