MATERIALS CONTROLLER (2 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Materials Controller will be responsible for managing and controlling the flow, availability, and integrity of materials within the warehouse and operational areas by ensuring efficient storage, accurate stock records, and timely issuance of materials to support continuous mining operations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Monitoring and maintaining optimal stock levels of critical spares, consumables, and production materials.
- Ensuring proper receipt, inspection, storage, and issuing of materials in accordance with company procedures.
- Conducting daily checks and reconciliations of physical stock against ERP system records.
- Updating material records, bin cards, and generating inventory reports for internal use.
- Coordinating with maintenance, procurement, and operations teams to ensure material availability.
- Investigating stock discrepancies and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensuring proper labelling, binning, and handling of materials according to safety and classification standards.
- Participating in cycle counts, annual stock takes, and audits and preparing reconciliation reports.
- Monitoring material shelf-life and ensuring obsolete or expired stock is handled according to policy.
- Identifying slow-moving or non-moving items and recommending optimisation actions.
- Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards in material storage areas.
- Maintaining updated material master data and supporting cataloguing processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Materials Management, a degree will be an added advantage
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in inventory control, warehousing, or materials management
- Certification in Inventory Control, SAPICS, or SAP MM (advantageous)
- Experience in mining, construction, or heavy industrial environments preferred
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems and cycle count management
