BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The General Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for managing, coordinating and controlling mechanical engineering maintenance activities across the processing plant to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant and equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Providing leadership, direction and technical oversight to Mechanical Foremen and maintenance teams across the Process Plant.
- Coordinating daily and weekly mechanical maintenance activities to support safe and reliable plant operation.
- Ensuring maintenance priorities are aligned with production requirements, equipment condition and operational risk.
- Monitoring plant and equipment availability, reliability and maintenance performance and driving corrective actions where required.
- Ensuring preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance activities are executed to the required standard.
- Providing technical support and guidance on complex equipment failures, major breakdowns and maintenance challenges.
- Ensuring significant and repeat equipment failures are investigated and appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Working closely with Reliability personnel to address bad actors, recurring defects and opportunities for maintenance strategy improvement.
- Coordinating major repairs, shutdowns, equipment overhauls and other significant maintenance activities.
- Ensuring shutdown and major maintenance scopes are adequately resourced, prepared and executed in accordance with approved schedules.
- Working closely with Maintenance Planning to ensure work is properly scoped, planned and scheduled and that labour, materials, services and specialist resources are available before execution.
- Monitoring maintenance backlog, work order completion and schedule compliance and ensuring appropriate follow-up by the Mechanical Foremen.
- Ensuring maintenance work is inspected, tested and properly handed back to Operations following execution.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship and ensuring quality issues and maintenance defects are addressed before equipment is returned to service.
- Ensuring appropriate use and management of maintenance spares, consumables, tools and specialist equipment.
- Supporting the Maintenance Superintendent with maintenance budgeting, expenditure control, forecasting and resource planning.
- Supervising and coordinating contractors, OEMs and specialist service providers carrying out mechanical maintenance activities.
- Monitoring contractor performance, work quality, safety compliance and adherence to agreed scope and standards.
- Ensuring maintenance teams maintain appropriate competency, discipline and adherence to engineering and work management standards.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable statutory requirements, engineering standards, site procedures and safe systems of work.
- Participating in incident investigations, equipment failure investigations and risk assessments and ensuring actions are effectively closed out.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and workplace discipline across workshops and operational areas.
- Preparing and providing maintenance performance information, equipment risks and operational updates to the Maintenance Superintendent.
- Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, reliability, maintainability, equipment availability and maintenance efficiency.
- Promoting a safety-first culture and ensuring all mechanical maintenance activities comply with MMG safety, statutory and environmental requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate, National Craft Certificate or equivalent engineering trade qualification.
- Minimum 10 years' post-trade experience in mechanical maintenance within mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial operations.
- Minimum 4 years' experience at Mechanical Foreman or equivalent level.
- Experience in a heavy mineral processing treatment plant.
- Must demonstrate Supervisory and Technical acumen.
- Maintenance Management, Reliability or Asset Management qualifications will be an added advantage.
- Relevant mechanical specialist, shutdown or project management training will be advantageous.
- Computer literacy with experience in CMMS/EAM systems and Microsoft Office applications.

The Water Services Supervisor will be responsible for safe, efficient, and compliant operation, maintenance and supervision of all site water services infrastructure, including raw water supply, potable water treatment, dewatering system, and wastewater management.
MECHANICAL FOREMAN
