Dugald River mine is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc mine operations, which has been producing zinc concentrate for customers around the world since 2017. 

The mine is committed to a low-carbon future. In April 2023 the Dugald River Solar Farm began operations, supplying a third of the mine’s power, and reducing emissions by 33% and this is just the start of its renewable energy transition. 

Dugald River employs around 750 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis.

Exploration Project Geologist

This role is your opportunity to build on the exceptional exploration and orebody knowledge at Dugald River, and be part of the Geology team that unlocks the potential of the Dugald River Ore System.

Reporting to the Principal Exploration Geologist, you will continue to develop the geological understanding of the region and apply this knowledge to improve our resource portfolio. You will identify and execute business improvement opportunities, manage drill programs, drive geological modelling and maintain a safe working culture. You will be a part of the team responsible for developing future resources for MMG Dugald River.

This role will be based on an 8/6, bus in bus out (BIBO) from Cloncurry or Mt Isa or fly in fly out (FIFO) from Townsville or Brisbane. Relocation support will be available for successful candidates who reside outside of these locations.

Qualifications, skills & competencies

• 3 – 4 years’ exploration experience.
• An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness.
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or higher
• Work in a close team environment, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to undertake mapping and structural interpretation and able to operate remotely.
• Working knowledge of geological databases and 3D mining software.
• Exposure to managing drilling programme performance and optimisation, and responding to changes in scheduling.
• Ability to manage core processing and provide direction to field technicians.
• Strong communication, reporting and presentation skills.
• Australian manual Class C (car) driver’s licence.

Key responsibilities include

• Identify and implement business improvement opportunities.
• Participate in and develop orebody knowledge research projects.
• Generate lithological, mineralisation and structural models to be delivered to the Resource Geology team for JORC compliant resource estimation and mining.
• Conduct mapping and robust core logging for geological interpretation.
• Performance management and review of QAQC protocols.
• Produce and review quality geological data interpretation.
• Manage the design, scheduling, execution and supervision of all drilling activities.
• Monitor and report progress of drilling
• strong communication, reporting and presentation skills.
• Collaborate with other team members to support and meet the geology departments assigned targets.
• Produce technical internal and government reports
