Geology Assistant
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Geology Assistant will be supporting the Mining Geology team with core handling, sampling, data collection and routine geological activities, ensuring that samples and geological information are handled safely, accurately and within agreed timelines.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receiving, sorting, arranging and maintaining drill core accurately and within agreed turnaround times.
- Assisting with core meter marks, orientation, photography and preparation of core for logging and sampling.
- Assisting with sampling, labelling, sample ledger generation, packaging and dispatching samples.
- Ensuring core trays, samples and associated materials are correctly identified and traceable.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date digital records, including geology inventory, sample records and core photographs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- BGCSE or equivalent
- Certificate in Geology / Mining related courses would be an added advantage.
- Experience in a mining or geological environment is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of drill core handling, sampling and geological data collection.
- Ability to follow geological procedures, standards and templates.
