BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for providing technical and operational support within the Paste Fill Laboratory through conducting laboratory testing, sample preparation, data recording, QA/QC monitoring and maintaining laboratory equipment and housekeeping standards. The role will be supporting geotechnical and paste fill operations by ensuring accurate testing, reporting and compliance with safety, quality, and operational procedures. The Laboratory Technician will also be assisting in instrumentation activities, sample collection and other geotechnical support functions as directed by the Paste Fill Foreman.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your key accountabilities include
- Conducting laboratory sample preparation, testing, and analysis for paste fill and geotechnical materials in accordance with approved procedures.
- Assisting with collection, handling, storage and dispatch of laboratory and underground samples.
- Supporting geotechnical and paste fill activities including inspections, monitoring, and data collection.
- Operating and maintaining laboratory testing equipment and instruments.
- Assisting with calibration and verification of laboratory equipment to ensure testing accuracy.
- Supporting QA/QC activities through routine inspections, monitoring, and testing.
- Recording and communicating testing results accurately and timeously to relevant personnel.
- Assisting with implementation of new testing methods, systems and technological improvements where applicable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
- Diploma in Laboratory Technology (for build and engineering environment), Mining Engineering, Civil and Construction Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a mining environment
- Experience with shotcrete or cement sampling and testing
- Basic understanding of laboratory operations, sample preparation, and testing procedures
- Knowledge of QA/QC principles and laboratory safety standards
- Basic knowledge of data recording, reporting, and record management
