ARTISAN ASSISTANT - BOILERMAKER

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

The Artisan Assistant – Boilermaker will be responsible for assisting in the fabrication, assembly, installation and maintenance of structural steelwork, pipelines, tanks, chutes, conveyors and other mining-related structures under the supervision of a qualified boilermaker.

 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Your key accountabilities include:

• Assisting Boilermakers with layout, marking, cutting and assembling steel components.
• Operating hand tools, grinders, drills and basic welding equipment under supervision.
• Participating in preventative and breakdown maintenance of mechanical structures and plant equipment.
• Supporting the installation and alignment of pipelines, conveyors and tanks.
• Complying with maintenance schedules and job cards issued by supervisors.
• Conducting housekeeping in the work area to maintain safety and organization.
• Assisting with inspections of fabricated and installed components for compliance with technical drawings.
• Carrying out lifting and rigging activities under supervision in line with issued appointments.
• Reporting unsafe acts, incidents, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors immediately.
• Supporting shutdowns and emergency repairs.
• Complying with permit-to-work systems and isolation procedures during maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Trade Test B or equivalent in Welding and Fabrication
• Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a similar role in mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Experience working within a structured safety system and under permit-to-work conditions is preferred.
• Exposure to plant maintenance, metal fabrication, or welding work.
• Participation in major maintenance shutdowns.
