Alternate Tailings Foreman

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

The Alternate Tailings Foreman will be responsible for providing operational and construction supervision for the Tailings Storage Facility, ensuring continuity of safe, efficient and compliant tailings deposition and civil works activities. The role will be supporting the Tailings Foreman and Tailings Superintendent by overseeing day-to-day TSF activities.  

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key accountabilities include:

• Supervising daily tailings deposition activities and civil works at the Tailings Storage Facility to ensure safe, efficient and compliant operations.
• Monitoring the condition and performance of the TSF, including embankments, pipelines, deposition areas, drainage systems and return-water infrastructure, and initiating corrective action where abnormalities are identified.
• Conducting routine site inspections to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, operating procedures and QA/QC requirements.
• Coordinating planned and unplanned maintenance activities on TSF infrastructure and equipment to minimise downtime and maintain operational reliability.
• Managing contractors and service providers involved in TSF construction, deposition, maintenance and related activities to ensure adherence to safety, quality and performance standards.
• Reporting operational performance, construction progress, incidents, deviations and emerging risks to the Tailings Foreman, Tailings Superintendent and relevant stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Minimum of Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE).
• Supervisory Development, Tailings and Plant Training will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience working on Mineral Processing plants.
• 3 years tailings experience in a supervisory capacity as Plant Foreman.
• Basic tailings course is an added advantage.
