Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
Level B Operator
Reporting to the Underground Shift Supervisor, you will safely and efficiently undertake a range of underground utility and operational activities in accordance with company standards, site procedures and legislative requirements.
This is a permanent position working a family-friendly 7-on, 7-off roster.
Responsibilities include:
- Following shift plans and instructions provided by the Underground Shift Supervisor.
- Supporting underground production and development activities through the completion of general utility and operational tasks.
- Installing, extending and maintaining underground services, including ventilation, water, air and electrical infrastructure within your level of competency and authorisation.
- Assisting with dewatering, road maintenance, housekeeping and the preparation of underground work areas.
- Safely operating assigned underground vehicles, mobile equipment and tools within their intended design and operating limits.
- Completing workplace inspections and ensuring appropriate warning signs, barricades and hazard controls are installed and maintained.
- Communicating work progress, physical conditions, hazards and delays to Mine Control and the Underground Shift Supervisor in real time.
- Working collaboratively with production, development and maintenance crews to support the achievement of shift targets.
- Completing and submitting all required shift reports, pre-start checks and operational documentation.
- Conducting thorough and informative end-of-shift handovers with the incoming cross-shift.
- Attending and actively participating in required site training, safety meetings and MMG programs.
- Maintaining assigned vehicles, equipment and work areas in a safe, clean and serviceable condition.
- Immediately reporting all incidents, hazards, equipment defects and unsafe conditions to the Underground Shift Supervisor.
About You
- Previous experience working in an underground mining environment, preferably in a utility, service crew or similar operational role.
- Sound knowledge of underground mining practices, equipment and safety requirements.
- Experience installing or maintaining underground services, including ventilation, water and air services, will be highly regarded.
- Ability to safely operate underground mobile equipment relevant to the role.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear, detailed handovers to supervisors and cross-shift crews.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary underground team.
- A current manual C Class driver’s licence.
- A current First Aid certificate is desirable.
- A current Working at Heights qualification is desirable.
- Willingness to complete a pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening and background checks.
