ROCK BREAKER OPERATOR

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

 A Rock Breaker Operator (ROM Pad) will be responsible for operating and maintaining a hydraulic rock breaker to reduce oversized rocks and boulders at the Run-of-Mine (ROM) pad, ensuring safe and continuous material flow to crushers and processing plant.

 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Your key accountabilities include:

• Operating the hydraulic rock breaker to reduce oversized rocks and boulders.
• Monitoring ROM pad operations and identifying material that may cause crusher blockages.
• Clearing crusher grizzlies, hoppers, and feed chutes when required and authorized.
• Conducting pre-start inspections and daily equipment checks.
• Reporting defects, breakdowns, and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
• Maintaining safe working distances from mobile equipment and personnel.
• Ensuring compliance with mine safety regulations, standards, and operating procedures.
• Assisting in managing material flow to maintain crusher productivity.
• Completing daily operational reports and checklists.
• Keeping the work area clean and free from hazards.
• Participating in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and risk assessments.
• Responding appropriately to emergencies and equipment failures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Minimum of Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE).
• Minimum 2 years’ experience operating a Rockbreaker.
• Valid Rock Breaker Operator competency certificate or relevant machine operating license.
• Experience operating hydraulic rock breakers in mining operations.
• Knowledge of ROM pad operations and crusher feeding systems.
