SAFETY OFFICER (LIFTING)

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

Oversee day-to-day lifting activities, verify equipment compliance, enforce load safety boundaries, and ensure zero incidents during critical and non-critical lifts.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lifting Plan Compliance: Reviewing and verifying Method Statements, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), and Lifting Plans (critical vs. routine) before any operation begins.
• Pre-Operational Inspections: Verifying valid Third-Party Inspection (TPI) certificates for mobile/tower cranes, rigging gear (slings, shackles, spreader beams), and ensuring daily operator check-sheets are logged.
• Site & Exclusion Zone Control: Enforcing drop-zone barricades, verifying ground stability/outrigger matting, and monitoring overhead clearance (powerlines, structures).
• Supervision & Execution: Conducting pre-lift toolboxes with riggers, signalmen, and crane operators as well as Monitoring load weight limits against Safe Working Load (SWL) charts.
• Incident Reporting & Audits: Investigating near-misses or lifting anomalies, conducting regular site HSE audits, and maintaining lifting register logs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Diploma/Degree in mechanical engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field
• Appointed Person (AP) as 14.1 in MQWMR / Lifting Supervisor Certificate)
• A minimum of 5 years in construction HSE with a focus on heavy lifting, crane operations, and steel erection
• Rigging hardware knowledge, load chart interpretation, ground bearing pressure evaluation, emergency response control
