TELEHANDLER OPERATOR (2 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION: 

The Telehandler Operator will be responsible for safely operating a telehandler (telescopic handler) for lifting, loading, unloading, and relocating heavy materials, tools, and equipment on site, supporting mining operations, maintenance activities, and logistics in line with operational requirements and safety standards.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key accountabilities include:

• Operating a telehandler to transport materials such as pallets, pipes, equipment, and containers to designated areas.
• Conducting daily pre-start inspections and reporting any mechanical issues, faults, or safety concerns.
• Loading and unloading goods from trucks or storage areas using forks, buckets, or other approved attachments.
• Supporting maintenance and shutdown teams by positioning equipment and lifting tools during repairs.
• Maintaining accurate logs of fuel use, operational hours, and pre-use checklists.
• Adhering to site safety procedures, including traffic rules, PPE requirements, and lifting protocols.
• Ensuring the machine is cleaned, parked, and secured after each shift.
• Assisting with manual handling tasks as required during non-operational periods.
• Reporting any near misses, incidents, or safety hazards promptly to the supervisor.
• Following instructions from supervisors and signallers when manoeuvring in tight or restricted areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE: 

• BGCSE certificate
• Certified Telehandler Operator License (from an accredited training provider)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience operating telehandlers or similar equipment in mining, construction, or heavy industrial environments
• Experience working in confined spaces and around mobile plant equipment
• Exposure to multi-functional sites or shutdown projects is an added advantage
