ARTISAN ASSISTANT – RIGGER

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

The Artisan Assistant - Rigger will be responsible for the safe and effective execution of rigging and lifting activities for equipment maintenance, shutdowns, and installation work across MMG Khoemacau Mining operations. The position will be working under the supervision of qualified Riggers, the role will be contributing to plant availability, reliability, and safe execution of lifting operations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Your key accountabilities include:

• Identifying and assisting Riggers during lifting, hoisting and rigging operations for plant and equipment.
• Preparing and setting up rigging gear and lifting equipment under supervision.
• Attaching and detaching slings, shackles, hooks, chain blocks, and other lifting accessories.
• Conducting pre-use inspections of rigging equipment and reporting defects immediately.
• Assisting with the assembly and disassembly of rigging arrangements.
• Ensuring lifting activities are performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures, lift plans, and statutory requirements.
• Maintaining good housekeeping standards in rigging and maintenance work areas.
• Participating in shutdowns, breakdowns, and scheduled maintenance activities.
• Identifying unsafe conditions or behaviours and reporting to supervisors.
• Supporting other maintenance or operational teams with general assistance as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Minimum of Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE).
• Basic Rigging Certificate from a recognized institution (Botswana or international).
• Minimum of 3 years post qualification in provision of rigging/ craneage services for mobile and fixed plant maintenance in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Experience working within a structured safety system and under permit-to-work conditions is preferred.
• Participation in major maintenance shutdowns and critical lifts.
